In the major subject sub-course "Celtology" you will learn the Celtic languages Old Irish and Middle Welsh, which originated over a thousand years ago and - at least as far as Welsh is concerned - are still spoken in parts of Great Britain today. As your studies progress, these language skills will enable you to understand and analyse original medieval texts from these cultural areas and to place them in their literary-historical and cultural contexts. In addition to working with texts from different periods and different types of text, the major subject focuses on philological as well as literary-theoretical/historical questions of text interpretation.

An integral part of the degree course is the MarSkills programme, in which you acquire attractive and future-oriented key skills (see www.uni-marburg.de/marskills).
