      01.04. - 15.06.:

      Entry into force in the winter semester 2025/26: (1) Admission to the Master’s degree course in Moving Cultures requires proficiency in English and French or Italian or Spanish or Portuguese (for more details, see paragraph 3). The language level depends on the choice of the main language (for more details see paragraph 3). One study language must be English. Since the MCTE degree course is taught exclusively in foreign languages, students do not need proof of German language proficiency. [...] (3) The following minimum requirements apply to the language proficiency that must be demonstrated in the application:
      • Applicants who choose English as their main language must demonstrate proficiency in English at level C1. Proof of French or Spanish or Italian or Portuguese language proficiency at level B2 must also be provided.
      • Applicants who choose French as their main language must demonstrate proficiency in French at level C1. In addition, proficiency in English at level B2 must be demonstrated.
      • Applicants who choose Italian as their main language must demonstrate proficiency in Italian at level B2. In addition, proficiency in English at level B2 must be demonstrated.
      • Applicants who choose Spanish as their main language must demonstrate proficiency in Spanish at level B2 (DELE B2). In addition, proficiency in English at level B2 must be demonstrated.
      • Applicants who choose Portuguese as their main language must demonstrate proficiency in Portuguese at level B2. In addition, proficiency in English at level B2 must be demonstrated.
      (4) The required language skills are demonstrated as follows:
      • For English, proof is provided by a completed Bachelor’s degree course in English Studies or American Studies (major or minor subject) or Teacher Training English (L3) from Goethe University, a completed, equivalent degree in English Studies or American Studies from other universities, or a standardised test from which the level C1 or B2 is clearly visible (e.g. TOEFL), which must be no more than two years old at the time of enrolment.
      • For French, proof is provided by a completed Bachelor’s degree course in Romance Studies (major or minor subject), Teacher Training French (L3) or the Romance Studies Magister degree courses (major and minor subject) from Goethe University, a completed, equivalent degree in Romance Studies from other universities or a standardised French test, from which the level C1 (e.g. DALF) or B2 (DELF) is clearly visible, which must be no more than two years old at the time of enrolment.
      • For Italian, proof is provided by a completed Bachelor’s degree course in Romance Studies (major or minor subject), Teacher Training Italian (L3) or the Romance Studies Magister degree courses (major and minor subject) from Goethe University, a completed, equivalent degree in Romance Studies from other universities or a standardised Italian test (e.g. CILS), from which the level B2 is clearly visible, which must be no more than two years old at the time of enrolment.
      • For Spanish, proof is provided by a completed Bachelor’s degree course in Romance Studies (major or minor subject), Teacher Training Spanish (L3) or the Romance Studies Magister degree courses (major and minor subject) from Goethe University, a completed, equivalent degree in Romance Studies from other universities or a standardised Spanish test (e.g. DELE), from which the level B2 is clearly visible, which must be no more than two years old at the time of enrolment.
      • For Portuguese, proof is provided by a completed Bachelor’s degree in Romance Studies (major or minor subject) from Goethe University, Teacher Training Portuguese or the Romance Studies Magister degree courses (major and minor subject) from Goethe University, a completed, equivalent degree in Romance Studies from other universities or a standardised Portuguese test (e.g. CAPLE/DIPLE), from which the level B2 is clearly visible, which must be no more than two years old at the time of enrolment.
      The required language proficiency can also be demonstrated by another certificate recognised as equivalent by the Admissions Committee.
      General higher education entrance qualification (Abitur) certificates are not recognised as proof of language proficiency under any circumstances.
      Overview of the required points or grades:
      English: TOEFEL: Internet-based: 110 for C1, 87–109 for B2; Computer-based: 270 for C1, 230–267 for B2; Paper-based: at least 637 for C1, at least 570 for B2; other standardised test; IELTS: 7.0 for C1, 6.5 for B2
      French: DALF: passed (at least 5 points per examination part; a total of 50 out of 100 points) for C1, DELF: passed (at least 5 points per examination part; a total of 50 out of 100 points) for B2
      Italian: CILS (or CELI or PLIDA): passed (total 70 out of 100 points) for B2
      Spanish: DELE: at least 70 out of 100 points for B2
      Portuguese CAPLE/DIPLE: at least 55% for B2

    • - Bachelor's degree from Goethe-Universität in English Studies (major or minor subject) or Romance Studies (major or minor subject) or a qualification that is at least equivalent from a German higher education institution in the same or a related discipline or an international qualification in the same or a related discipline that is at least equivalent.
      The examination committee decides on the recognition and comparability of qualifications.
      - Command of English as well as French or Spanish. A target language must be chosen.
