Course structure of BSc International Engineering / INB

      1st & 2nd semester:

Foundation studies: Focus is on the fundamentals of Maths and Physics. Introduction into the basics of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Process Engineering. A laboratory course teaches practical skills in the fields of electrical engineering and chemistry. Language of instruction is English.

      3rd & 4th semester:

Advanced studies: In the first part of the main study programme, the engineering disciplines are deepened. The interdisciplinary nature of many modules becomes clear, e.g. technical thermodynamics as a core subject of process engineering and mechanical engineering, measurement and control technology for the diagnosis and control of machines and processes. Language of instruction is English.

At the end of the 4th semester, students are encouraged to choose one of the four specialisations of the main course and to select a suitable institution for the following practical semester.

      5th semester:

Internship semester: This semester provides an insight into the reality of the professional world and trains self-organisation and communication skills; outside the university in industry or at a research institution. Students have the option of choosing an institution based in Germany or working internationally.

      6th & 7th semester:

Choice of specialisation: Students choose one of the four specialisations.

The aim of the General Engineering specialisation is to acquire generalist skills for coordinating activities in industry and for the holistic optimisation of complex technical systems. Modules are offered that have a generalist nature. Courses in the General Engineering specialisation continue to be taught in English.

The three specialisations Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering deepen subject-specific knowledge and skills. The courses are generally held in German and are linked to modules from the main study programme of the purely German-language Bachelor’s degree programmes of the participating faculties.

This programme can be studied completely in English.

No knowledge of German is required at the start of the programme.

German language tuition is an integral part of the programme in the university’s own language centre, free of charge.

Your German language level will be at least B1 by the start of the placement semester in industry.

You can choose to write the Bachelor thesis in English or German.

      Application information:

The application portal opens in mid-October for the summer semester. If you have any questions please contact: apply.inb@hs-mannheim.de.

Due to the multitude of applications TH Mannheim receives each year, and as the number of students to be admitted is restricted, applicants should have a very good school-leaving certificate or university transcript. The Admissions Committee focuses on your grades in Maths and Physics.

      Housing application

TH Mannheim highly recommends that you apply for student accommodation with Studierendenwerk Mannheim when applying for a study place. Online application for student accommodation can be done as early as 4 months before the start of the summer semester. You can apply with Studierendenwerk Mannheim before having received admission for INB.

      Visa application

The procedure for applying for a study visa for Germany may vary slightly from country to country. TH Mannheim strongly recommends checking with the German embassy or consulate in your country for up-to-date details relevant to your specific case while preparing your application with us.
