    • Annotation of the Higher Education Institution The predominantly application-oriented Master's degree programme German as a Foreign Language prepares you for the profession of a ‘German as a Foreign Language’ teacher for adults in Germany and abroad. It is aimed at students pursuing this career aspiration and also aims to train and promote young academics in the field of foreign language didactics and language teaching and learning research.
The degree programme is designed for students who have obtained a German or foreign Bachelor's degree or equivalent in German Studies or a related subject and who can prove that they have sufficient German language skills to work as a German as a foreign language teacher.

The content required for this profession and taught in this degree programme is above all:

      - a thorough knowledge of the German language to be taught, in its linguistic description and in your own command of the language
      - a good knowledge of language, literature and regional studies didactics for teaching German as a foreign language
      - a comprehensive knowledge of teaching and learning principles for language learning, including the methods and results of language teaching research
      - a reflective practice of language teaching acquired in supervised internships

The degree programme provides the necessary theoretical, methodological and practical knowledge and skills for teaching communication and teamwork.

      Research focuses

      - linguistic studies
      - course of study in regional studies and literature mediation
      - course of study in language teaching research, psycholinguistics and didactics

You can set an additional focus within the framework of the elective modules. You can choose between a more intensive examination of teaching practice, a deepening of the analysis of teaching materials and a thorough consolidation of the methods and projects of language teaching research and psycholinguistics. The latter is of particular interest if you are planning to do a doctorate after the Master's degree.
