  • Field of study
    • Target group The Master’s degree course in Psychology with specialisation in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy (according to German law on the profession of psychotherapist (PsychThG) 2019) is offered by the Faculty of Human Sciences, which has the status of a university of applied sciences and is therefore equivalent to a university. The standard period of study for the entire course (Bachelor and Master), that according to § 2 of the Psychotherapist Training Act is a prerequisite for the granting of a license to practice as a psychotherapist, is 5 years. Of these, 3 years are for a professionally recognised or equivalent Bachelor's degree course in Psychology and 2 years for the Master's degree course in Psychotherapy. The Master's degree programme concludes with the Master's examination and the Master of Science academic degree. The regulations of the German Psychotherapist Training Act and the Licensing Regulations for Psychotherapists (PsychTh-ApprO) apply to the subsequent psychotherapeutic examination, which is carried out under the supervision of the competent authority under state law.
    • Main instruction language German
    • Annotation of the Higher Education Institution The basic competencies to be acquired in the degree course are geared towards targeted participation in psychotherapeutic care and towards the development of scientific competencies, the ability to engage in lifelong learning, including the ability to engage in further and continuing education, as well as the development of organisational or leadership competencies. In addition to content-related, technical-methodical and implementation-oriented competences, personal or social skills must also be developed in a form that is necessary for independent, autonomous and comprehensive psychotherapeutic care for people of all ages, including the needs of people with disabilities.
