  • Field of study
    • Target group The scope and influence of democratic politics has been challenged increasingly in the recent past: The public expect far more of the state than the creation of internal, external and social security\; the distribution of wealth, market regulation and production of diverse other public goods, such as consumer, environmental and data protection, are much more at the forefront of concerns. Political decisions are therefore made under highly complex conditions and with many different interests competing for attention. Globalisation processes and growing interdependency between states additionally make it de facto increasingly difficult to view national states as sovereign actors that control their internal affairs and their external relations autonomously. They much rather must be perceived as interconnected and in many respects dependent actors with diminishing decision-making scope within a complex web of international and supranational relations. These clear limitations on the scope of state action increasingly point towards a central question: What influence and control can political actors have on this and the other side of national boundaries in a politically and economically globalised and interconnected world? In the 'Political Economics and International Relations' MA programme, you will take a theory-driven and methodologically solid approach to this question, based on the latest research findings.
