    • Annotation of the Higher Education Institution This joint program with the University of Bremen is research-driven and leads to a Master of Arts degree in International Relations: Global Governance and Social Theory. The fields covered are: theories and issues of global governance, changing context of global governance, theorizing social order and change, and methodology. A consecutive PhD is offered by the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS), a joint project by Jacobs University and University of Bremen, funded by the German Excellence Initiative.

      Please note that the MA International Relations uses the application system of the University of Bremen which can be accessed through the program website.

    The language of instruction is English. Small learning groups and active involvement in research projects from the first semester onwards are characteristic of the study programs, just like an interdisciplinary teaching approach.
    Jacobs University offers education ranging from Bachelor's and Master's degrees to doctorates. These degrees can be obtained in the natural sciences as well as in the humanities and social sciences - in private higher education this is unique in Germany.
    With the Foundation Year, Jacobs University also offers an orientation year in which students can gain an insight into various subjects before deciding on their future course of study.
