In this minor subject, you study the connections between the pre-modern era (antiquity, the Middle Ages, the early modern age) and the world today and can discuss these under academic aspects. You will be able to classify original-language primary sources and interpret them in the context of current research debates. A separate module designed to span across epochs, focusing on the critical reflection of historical patterns, enables you to deepen your analytical skills. In terms of content, the minor subject "History of the Pre-Modern Era" aims at reconstructing pre-modern societies and understanding their differences and similarities. In examining the epochal change between antiquity, the Middle Ages and the early modern age, students develop a comprehensive historical awareness that allows them to critically reflect on their point of view in today's world. They acquire a unique intellectual tool kit, sharpen their ability to think in a differentiated way and thus receive an education that – far beyond subject specialisation – provides a wide range of benefits for the professional world as well as for the state and society.

An integral part of the degree course is the MarSkills programme, in which you acquire attractive and future-oriented key skills (see www.uni-marburg.de/marskills).
