Data privacy and social-media-network

We are delighted that you want to recommend and discuss content from the Higher Education Compass on Facebook and Google+. However, please be aware that as soon as the button is activated, data will be transferred to Facebook and Google+, and this happens without you being asked for your express consent. Apart from the web address you want to recommend, activating these buttons also send other data, including information that will establish a direct link to your personal profile on social media sites such as Facebook. Although the administrators of social networks do not provide specific information about which details are being captured, Facebook, Google+, and other applications are able to create detailed user profiles for each individual.

To enable you to make your own choice about whether your user details are transmitted to third parties, social media applications within the Higher Education Compass are deactivated as a default setting. Only when you personally activate these services and thereby allow communications with Facebook and Google+ will the buttons become active and connect with social media applications, allowing you to post recommended links, etc.

Your permission to transfer data to a social media application can only be given on this one page and applies exclusively to the selected social media service. This makes it possible for you to use the social media services without enabling those services to create a complete user profile of you as a visitor. By selecting the options given the cog icon, next to the  “i” symbol below, you can also choose to permanently activate the selected social media applications for the entire Higher Education Compass. Of course, it is also possible to deactivate these again if you should wish.
